Dubrovnik's music scene ranges from the grand orchestral and operatic programme of the Summer Festival to chamber concerts at the Rector's Palace, folk and klapa singing in Old Town squares, and underground music at Lazareti.
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival — orchestral and opera
The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra gives its most prestigious performances during the Summer Festival (10 July-25 August), particularly at the Rector's Palace atrium, where chamber concerts by visiting soloists are among the most in-demand tickets of the season.
The Rector's Palace atrium — chamber music
Outside the Summer Festival, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra performs regular chamber concerts in the Rector's Palace atrium. The Gothic-Renaissance courtyard has excellent acoustics for small ensembles and solo voice. See the Rector's Palace venue guide.
Klapa — a cappella tradition
Klapa is the traditional a cappella singing style of the Dalmatian coast, typically performed by male vocal groups in four-part harmony. Dubrovnik has active klapa groups that perform in the Old Town through summer. The style was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2012.
Lazareti — contemporary music
Lazareti hosts underground and alternative music events through the year, weighted towards local audiences. See the Lazareti guide.
