Getting to and attending live events in Dubrovnik requires some planning — the Old Town is compact and pedestrianised, parking is limited outside the walls, and summer crowds can be intense. This page covers the practical considerations.
Getting to the Old Town
The Old Town is pedestrianised; cars cannot enter. Visitors arriving by car park at the Gruz harbour area or at the garages below Mount Srd and walk down (or take a bus) to the Pile Gate. The city buses connect the harbour, the cable car station and the Pile Gate regularly through the day and evening.
Booking tickets
The Libertas Guide does not sell tickets. For the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, book through the festival's own website or box office. The main box office is on the Stradun (Placa 1); it opens from 09:00 daily during the festival season. For the Marin Držić Theatre, tickets can often be purchased at the theatre box office on the day of performance.
What to wear
Outdoor performances at Fort Lovrijenac, Gradac Park and Sponza Palace can be cool after dark — even in summer, sea breezes from the Adriatic drop the temperature significantly once the sun sets. Bring a light layer. Comfortable footwear is essential on Dubrovnik's limestone streets and the fortress access paths.
Timing and crowding
July and August are the busiest months. Book accommodation and festival tickets as early as possible. Arrive early at outdoor venues — Fort Lovrijenac fills on popular evenings. Consider shoulder-season visits (May-June, September) for a less crowded experience.
