The eastern Adriatic coast — from Istria in the north through Dalmatia to Montenegro in the south — has a summer cultural calendar anchored by outdoor festivals that use ancient Roman, medieval and Renaissance architecture as their stages.
Dubrovnik Summer Festival
The defining festival of the southern Adriatic, using Fort Lovrijenac, Rector's Palace, Sponza Palace, Revelin, Gradac Park and Gundulić Square as its stages from 10 July to 25 August. See the Dubrovnik Summer Festival guide for full coverage.
Split Summer
Held in Diocletian's Palace (a fourth-century Roman site that became the core of Split's old town), the Split Summer runs from mid-July through August with opera, music and drama staged in the ancient Peristyle and surrounding spaces. Split is accessible from Dubrovnik by catamaran (approximately 3.5 hours).
Montenegro
The Bay of Kotor — a UNESCO-protected Mediterranean fjord on the Montenegrin coast — is approximately 1.5 hours from Dubrovnik by road. The walled city of Kotor has its own summer festival programme in July-August. Day trips from Dubrovnik to Kotor are popular.
The Libertas Guide
The Libertas Guide focuses on Dubrovnik. For the wider Adriatic coast, check individual festival and venue sites directly. We do not sell tickets and have no commercial relationships with venues or promoters.
